Description

After selling my previous build, I got the itch to build again...

Went with a compact mini-itx build because a huge tower didn't appeal to me. All parts were purchased or acquired new except the GPU, which was acquired in a trade in 2019.

The only issue with this build was the H115i had to be installed on the top of the case. The original plan was to have it on the front of the case, but when trying to assemble it, I realized that the H115i's radiator and fans were too thick and blocked the mounting holes for the front-most top fan mount. With the 1080 being a blower design, I did not notice any issues with the H115i being used for exhaust. I don't have screenshots of the Temps and don't remember the exact numbers, but I wasn't ever concerned while gaming.

The ultimate goal was to put an RTX card in and enjoy it. Unfortunately like most people I wasn't able to get one.

I have started traveling for work and just wasn't using it so I sold it... Probably going to get the building itch before too long. Hopefully parts will be more readily available by then.

Part Reviews

CPU

I had no issues with this i9. It was quite a powerhouse and could certainly handle everything I threw at it.

CPU Cooler

With the 9900k I wanted to ensure that heat wouldn't be an issue. In this case, it was a VERY tight fit but definitely worth it.

Motherboard

I had no issues with this motherboard. UI for BIOS was easy to use although not quite to my taste. But that isn't worth losing a star.

Memory

Worked like they were supposed to. No issues for me while using this PC. RGB was bright and responsive to iCue.

Storage

Had two of these in my build (mirrored) that held Windows and Linux. I was impressed with the speeds of these SSDs and will be using on my next build.

Storage

Used as the game library for fast loading and it worked exactly as I needed.

Storage

Was gifted this HDD for Christmas 2019. I have used as primary data storage for all media. It is still going strong and I have no complaints.

Video Card

I love the aesthetic of the 10 series Founders Editions and this was no exception. The device performed as expected and handled any game I threw at it without issue. My monitor was only 1920x1080 60hz, so I was unable to test at resolutions or framerates.

Once prices for GPU's drop I will be looking for another one just for the appearance.

Case

This case is compact and aesthetically pleasing. Not too tall and only a little wider than a normal tower. Back side had plenty of space for any cabling, the PSU and HDDs. I didn't notice any issues with airflow for my build.

Power Supply

This PSU is a solid performer and met my needs. It was overkill for my build but I was planning on running an RTX card so I wouldn't worry. I never got to try that before I sold the build but Silverstone made a Solid PSU and I will definitely be using them next time.

If you usually don't care about PSUs the only advice I can give is to go Modular! No excessive cables in sight.
